The Challenge
This year's HOTBED student artists are challenged to create a site-specific video work to be exhibited 24/7 at NADA Miami Beach 2012 in the fair venue's public atrium at the Deauville Beach Resort, as well as on every TV in the Deauville's 484 guest rooms. None of the students' primary majors is digital media; they must conceive and produce work using unfamiliar methods, each of them completing a single piece strong enough to engage art-savvy viewers in a busy public space and a most intimate private space.

The Mentor Workshop
A workshop was conducted at the Rubell Family Collection Library where each student presented their work-in-progress to a special panel: artist Dara Friedman, RFC Co-Founder Mera Rubell, Director Mara Sartore of the Circuito Off Venice International Film Festival, and the Miami-based art collector and Locust Projects Board Member Jorge A. Garcia.

As can be seen in the above image of Sebastian Duncan-Portuondo presenting a video sample of his work-in-progress, the panel engaged with each HOTBED artist individually, reviewing content elements and production plans, providing highly focused feedback and advice on core conceptual and technical aspects of the works.
